Insulating Concrete Forms Alliance of Australia is in the business of changing and shaping lives. The work we do at our Non-Profit Organization is aimed at providing support/education to those people that want to build out of ICF whether it is builders, architects, designers or home owners however are not sure how to get started to achieve the best possible result.   Also ICFAA is about the promotion of ICF building in Australia which is an amazingly sustainable product built to last many more years than current building methods whether it be for commercial or residential building as proven in many countries around the world.  There are many brands of ICF available around the world and in Australia.

 

Presently the building industry in Australia predominantly is still using outdated technology.   It has failed to implement new and more effective products and methods of construction which has been a worldwide problem, it's not just happening here in Australia. However many countries have now begun to embrace this technology and the ICFAA would like to assist Australia to do the same and improve life here for Australians to have multi-generational homes that are a real asset to them and their families for years to come.  ICFAA are able to also educate and assist councils and governments and assist people to rebuild in bushfire, cyclone and natural disaster areas with new and improved materials that won't compromise their families in this way again.

Here in Australia it seems the attitude has been, we have been building with stick and brick homes for so long why do we need to change now?  As many of us have discovered this out dated thinking and continued use of out dated products and methods do not provide us today with a sustainable home.  One which we feel has a good level of superior strength or energy efficiency.   In spite of this slow to action ideas & thinking in the building industry, a small but growing group of forward thinking builders, designers, concreters, suppliers and homeowners have taken up the challenge to produce a more energy efficient way of construction in residential, commercial and industrial buildings.  ICFAA has been working with ICF manufacturers and ICF authorities throughout the world which has facilitated the development of ICF here in Australia giving us the most up to date products and accessories.

15 years ago some progressive & forward thinking homeowners decided they wanted more sustainable, energy efficient, natural disaster free and affordable ICF homes which were still very attractive and had maximum street appeal so the ICF home in Australia was born.   Unfortunately it was very difficult for them to find a builder with the same progressive ideas.  Most builders still had their heads in the sand and there were very few ICF builders available so the owner builder took to building with ICF themselves.

This did create a problem as most people involved in the early ICF industry had very little understanding of the building industry, correct building practice and building science based on the laws of physics.   This eventuated in a situation of non trades people telling trades people how to build with ICF.
 
Today we are in a more fortunate position to have  groups of builders all over Australia that have implemented ICF into the building industry.  We are also fortunate to have a range of world class ICF building accessories that has streamlined the industry and makes the whole ICF system more efficient and more user friendly.
 

We as an industry are still growing and what is currently needed are more architects, engineers, builders, and concretors who can see the many advantages of building using ICF products compared to using out dated building technology, and are willing and able to adapt their building practices into using ICF construction principals.
